I would now like to try a small toroidal winding on a glass torus to see if cab achieve a stable plasma.
In the diagram on the left, I illustrate a glass torus I hope to get made and I
hope to wind a single layer coil round it of about 20 turns of 16 guage
enamelled wire. I intend to connect two capacitors of about 100pF in
series across it and make that the tank circuit of a valve colpitts
oscillator.
I expect a current of 250 mA in the anode and an anode voltage of around 200V making a power of 50 watt to be dissipated in the coil. Class C.
Initially I will try air at low pressure in the torus. I hope to see a fine loop of plasma around the torus. I do not expect any of my constructions to develop any thermonuclear power of have any nuclear reactions.
